Why I’ll never call myself an expert

by Drew on September 3, 2009

It’s pointless! It doesn’t mean anything to anyone. The truth is, if one feels inclined to give themselves such a title then it probably isn’t true. It’s also quite uncreative as far as self promotion goes.

If I AM an expert it will be apparent to those that know my work – and if they use the word “expert” to describe my proficiency? Great! But for me, it’s not an attainable (or measureable?) destination. It’s the idea of being on top of your game and being appreciated for it that’s worth striving for.

Great thoughts Drew! Not to mention people who consider themselves “experts” stop learning or looking for new challenges. This is a scary thought. Words like “expert” or “perfect” are just illusions, no one really knows what they look like and no one really knows how to get there. If we didn’t have such a hunger for knowledge we’d all be a lot dumber. Personally, the little bit of knowledge I have, barely anything being 19, is something I wouldn’t trade for anything. More valuable yet is experience and imagination. “Experts” have to think expert thoughts, and to think expert thoughts you need to know it all, and the only people who know it all, really no nothing…so what does that say about experts? haha:D

Great post:)

I like your blog, will keep subscribed! And thanks for stopping by mine:)

Have a good night
