I've been phasing into a pure polyphasic schedule myself for the last week or so, getting my mind & body accustomed to napping productively in only 20-30 minutes. I'm now on day 2 of the strict schedule... and though I feel slightly "fuzzy" around the edges, otherwise it's absolutely fantastic! My other half wants to make the shift as well, but is having a harder time than me... so there's a bit of tension there, but I think in time she'll be able to make the shift. Polyphasic sleep just plain fits my/our life and style SO much better. I keep reading about people who quit for social reasons... but personally we don't really have any such restrictions so I'm looking forward to us being polyphasic for a long long time. It really *is* like time travel!

But let's see me get through week 1 all the way before I get too excited. ;)

It's always surprising to hear that the biggest challenge to productivity is social.
We blogged about <a href="http://www.slaughterdevelopment.com/2009/07/09/remote-work-week-qualifications/" rel="nofollow">business productivity</a> with regard to personality earlier this year. Check it out!

I had a similar experience with trying polyphasic sleep. My experiment lasted about a month with varying degrees of success. My wife was remarkably tolerant. Several times when we were at a restaurant with her family, I had to duck out to the car for a quick nap in the parking lot.

Like Drew I felt incredibly productive with the extra time I had, but the isolation of putting myself on a different schedule than everyone else in my life became too much to keep going.

It is nice to see you reflect on the two weeks and pretty crazy to think that those two weeks were the best you have felt in a while. I commend you for doing it. I don't think I could ever pull it off. I enjoy sleeping way too much and it is hard enough getting out of bed after 8 hours of sleep. I couldn't imagine calling it quits after 20 minutes. Hopefully you will find something that gets you excited and motivated to work and stay productive. I say energy drinks....
